With more than 100 quality dining spots, Tupelo -- birthplace of Elvis Presley -- features cuisine from casual to gourmet, stoked up with noted hospitality. Main Street’s fast food magnet Bumper’s Drive-In, one of 33 locations in Mississippi, does bumper crop business in Fried Dill Pickle-O’s, Jumpin’ Jack Fries, and Biggie Bags. Bar-B-Que by Jim on Commerce Street serves plate lunches, ribs and smoked chicken. Fire Station No. 1 on Main Street serves North Carolina-style barbeque, whereas Shockley’s on Gloster Street specializes in home-cooked meals including catfish. Covering all the bases, Woody’s Tupelo on North Gloster features certified Angus steak and fresh seafood, along with wild game, fowl, and more, including buffalo, elk, kangaroo, ostrich, and snake.

La Oaxaquena, on Cliff Gookin Boulevard, is known for authentic Mexican cuisine. Weezie’s Deli serves sandwiches and fresh salads, The Cafe at High Cotton, on Veterans Boulevard, serves salads, pastas, and desserts, and T Culp & W’spoon features daily lunch specials. For donuts, Shipley’s locations produce three dozen varieties, plus sausage or ham kolaches, muffins, and cookies. New China Buffet features American and Japanese items along with Chinese favorites. Chains range from Applebees and Olive Garden to Ruby Tuesday and Outback.
